IDC conducted in-depth interviews with seven enterprises that have recently initiated a technology refresh of their Unix server storage and operating environment. The interviews provided valuable insight into the customers' reasons for modernising their IT infrastructure and the benefits associated with both consolidation and virtualisation. Reviewing these practices yielded a large amount of quantitative data that IDC entered into its return-on-investment (ROI) analysis.
